Container transportation

In our time, when the flow of cargo traffic is increasing every day, the importance of container deliveries is increasing more and more. Any transport and logistics company widely uses this method of cargo transportation. Container transportation, or in other words containerization, is a method of cargo delivery related to the system of modular loading and transportation of cargo using standard modular containers. Containers are divided into 3, 5 ton, twenty and forty foot containers. A container is a standard multi-turn container that is intended for transporting goods by any type of transport: by sea, by air (it is assumed in the future even by space), by rail and by road. Containers for transportation are made of various materials and have a variety of shapes. Universal containers are the most widely used in cargo transportation.

The most interesting thing is that such a convenient method of transportation has long made its way into the world of cargo transportation. The idea to transport goods in a unified container arose in the middle of the last century. Malcolm McLean, who worked as a simple freight forwarder, suggested that the ship owners implement their proposal. The important invention was received very coolly. The skepticism of the owners of large transport companies prompted McLean to create his own shipping company and use containers for cargo transportation himself. In 1956, after refitting the tanker for container shipping, he sent the ship with 58 containers on Board from the port of Newark to Houston. The start was successful, and the company soon received a lot of orders for container transportation. For some time, there were still disputes about the size of containers, until in 1964, global dimensions were adopted, which are now used in all countries. Today, more than 90% of all bulk cargo transportation is carried out in containers.

For the transportation of liquid food and chemical products, as well as liquefied gases, tank containers or 20 – foot tank containers are used. They are used for road, rail, sea or river transport. To ensure increased safety of transportation and safety of the cargo being transported, an intermediate product overflow is not applied during cargo transportation, when a change of transport is necessary, and cargo delivery takes place according to the «door-to-door»scheme. The use of tank containers allows you to optimally plan logistics operations by reducing the railway fare, as well as rapid reloading of tank containers from one transport to another.

In recent decades, cargo transportation in containers is deservedly considered the safest and most convenient way to deliver a wide variety of goods. The most important thing is to choose containers of the required size that can be moved using any type of transport. Due to the strength of the container walls, cargo transportation ensures complete safety of the transported products, goods or property. During transportation, damage and violation of the integrity of the transported cargo are completely excluded. Since the container has a relatively large capacity, such delivery will be inexpensive and will not require additional costs. Due to the mechanization of the loading and unloading process, the cargo delivery service is accelerated and cheaper.

The main advantage of container transportation is convenience, since the cargo is loaded once at the point of departure and transferred to the customer in the same form at the point of delivery. The container reliably protects the cargo from damage, this is especially important when transporting computer equipment and especially valuable goods.
